Man Removes Father’s Heart after Killing him
A 35-year old man, Nelson Oamen, who allegedly stabbed his father to death, removing his heart afterwards, was on Monday, remanded at a local Nigerian Prison.
Reports say the suspect who was suspected to be a drug addict, allegedly stabbed his septuagenarian father, an indigene of Edo State to death.
He had also reportedly removed his father’s heart and took it away, covering his corpse with a blanket, before sneaking out of the house.
Meanwhile, Oamen, on Tuesday, September 29 turned himself in at the Ipaja Police Division and was reportedly transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation (SCID) for further investigation.
According to Punch Metro, Nelson was said to have walked into the police station to report himself, during which he allegedly confessed to the crime.
Confirming the arrest, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, said, “The man has been arrested.”
However, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Folasade Botoku said the plea of the accused would not be taken as the court lacked the jurisdiction to prosecute murder cases.
She, in spite of that, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison pending the release of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The Prosecutor, ASP Olagoke Akinlabi, had earlier told the court that the accused used a broken bottle to stab his 75-year old father, Sunday Oamen, ripping open his stomach.
“He claimed that his father refused to give him money to purchase a bus and on the said day he went into his father’s room where he was sleeping and stabbed him with a broken bottle,” Akinlabi said,
noting that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The country's Section 221 prescribes death sentence for convicts.
The Magistrate adjourned the case to November 5.
