Man hangs himself after wife tells him to stop drinking beer in Dowa

A man in Dowa has hanged himself to a tree after his wife told him to stop drinking beer. The deceased, Isaac Nyati, 45, killed himself on August 29, 2020. Police in the district have confirmed the tragedy saying Nyati was found hanging dead in a nearby garden. Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police spokesperson said Nyati, a well known drunkard would go missing for sometime when the wife tried to reason with him to stop drinking beer. “Eventually he would come back home. This has been happening for several times and on Friday morning August 28 2020, the deceased left his house pretending that he was going to drink beer at a nearby village,” M’bumpha said. The Police publicist said Nyati did not come back home this time around prompting his wife and the children to start looking for him within the village and they were later informed that he was seen hanging dead in a tree in a nearby garden. Angry community in running battles with the police in MJ

Commotion has erupted in Mulanje as youths from Chitakale and surrounding villages are protesting a move by management of Chitakale Tea Estate Company to turn Chitakale football ground into a sugarcane field. The concerned youth blocked Midima road with tree branches and big stones, making the road impassable. Police officers from Mulanje were deployed to the scene to calm down the situation by firing teargas at the angry protesters. In retaliation, the youth pelted stones at the law enforcers resulting into running battles. Meanwhile the situation is still tense in the area.    

Malawi Immigration Deports 10 Illegal Immigrants

At least 10 illegal immigrants are being deported today by the department of Immigration in the eastern region. Eastern Region Immigration officer Vivian Kasambo confirmed of the development. According to Kasambo, were arrested on Saturday at Ntaja in Machinga where they were operating from to an illegal mine near the area. Out of the deported immigrants, five are form Mozambique and the remaining five are from Tanzania. Kasambo has however said that the immigrants will be deported through Chiponde boarder in Mangochi district.  

Mary Chilima’s grandmother dies

Death has been announce of a grandmother to Madam Mary Chilima, Amama Mary Vito Mtuwana Kamoto. Mtuwana Kamoto died on Sunday at the age of 84. This has been confirmed in a statement released by United Transformation Movement (UTM) made available to faceofmalawi. “Darkness has befallen the UTM family as we have lost our Mother, Grandmother and Aunt, Amama Mary Vito Mtuwana Kamoto, Madam Mary Chilima’s grandmother who has gone to be with the Lord. “May the Almighty Lord be have mercy on her soul and grant it internal peace,” reads the statement in part. Meanwhile funeral details are still sketchy..    

Ntcheu is regirstering an increase in Defilement Cases

Police in Ntcheu
say the district has registered an increase in defilement cases.   In an interview, Ntcheu Police Station spokesperson Hastings Chigalu said the cases rose to 30 from 15 during the same period last year.   He said police
is encouraging coordination with other stakeholders, including traditional leaders, to fight defilement.   “The battle cannot be won by police alone. So, let us join hands to end the vice,” said Chigalu.   In a separate interview, Ntcheu YouthNet and Counselling Organisation (Yoneco) programme support manager Sewenthe Mahwayo said they recorded 170 gender-based violence between January and June.  

NPL Rescues St. Peters Hospital in Likoma

Women and children on Likoma Island are expected to see an improved health service delivery at the islands St. Peters Hospital courtesy of a donation of various machines for the maternity and labour wards at the facility by the Nation Publications Limited (NPL) through its health resource mobilization campaign, Mothers Fun Run (MFR). NPL has donated two  Resuscitators  and one  Suction  machines to the health facility on Saturday amounting to 2.3 million kwacha. The machines are used to support infants and premature babies with breathing difficulties as well as mothers in labor. MFR Program Coordinator Albert Banda said the donation is aimed at improving the provision of quality primary health care services at the Islands hospital. According to Banda, referral cases are a big challenge due to transport challenges at the Island. Two Arrested For Stealing Motorcycle In Chitipa

Police in Chitipa have arrested two people for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in the district. Sub Inspector Gladwell Simwaka Chitipa Police Station PRO said the two have been identified as France Mtambo 24 and Sifa Kalesi 25, both of Zamamba Village in Traditional Authority Kameme in Chitipa who commited offense on August 29, 2020 at around 4pm at Nkhangwa Community Ground. “The suspects stole a Kinglion motorcycle, registration number MC735 CPJ at Nkhangwa Primary School Ground where the owner went to watch a footbal match.It is reported that the suspects stole the motorcycle at the parking area while the owner was watching the game.” Explained Simwaka Simwaka said investigations into the matter led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the motorcycle which is valued at K850 000.The two will appear in court soon to answer a charge of theftof motorcycle.    

Govt okays ISAMA for kindergarten schools re-opening

Government has granted the Independence Schools Association of Malawi (ISAMA) plea to have kindergarten academics to resume on September 7 2020. Government said will soon release a fresh calendar on the same. However, parents have urged Government to reverse the kindergarten schools re-opening, saying children can not follow the COVID-19 preventive measures.  

Nyekhwe after Nyekhwe, Chisale arrested again

Bodyguard of former President Peter Mutharika, Norman Chisale has been arrested again while on remand at Maula prison. According to media reports, Chisale has been arrested on issues surrounding a certificate he used to join Malawi Army way back. This is his fourth arrest in a row. Chisale is expected to appear before the High Court for bail ruling at 2pm today in case in which he is accused of having a hand in the gruesome murder of Issah Njauju of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).  

Covid 19: Mary Chilima Pledges To Support Vulnarable Communities Amid Covid-19

The country’s second lady Madam Mary Chilima has pledged to support vulnerable communities by distributing face masks in the wake of the novel coronavirus. Madam Chilima made the pledge when she was invited to attend the Women Councilors Caucus. “Last week I was honoured by a courtesy call from representatives of female councilors led by the Vice Chairperson of Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA), Councilor Esther Sagawa. The ladies introduced the Women’s Councilors Caucus and shared their plans and programs,” said Madam Chilima. According to Madam Chilima, the discussion centered on innovative ways to work jointly on Covid-19 measures and how to actively participate in women, girls and children programs. At the meeting they agreed to make a concert effort to work with vulnerable and marginalized groups within the community. The Zomba High Court has found Misonzi Chanthunya guilty of murdering his girlfriend Linda Gasa. Chanthunya was answering two charges of murder and another of hindering burial of a dead body. High Court Judge Ruth Chinangwa said the state has prove that Gasa was murdered through poisoning. On who caused the death, Chinangwa said circumstantial evidence shows Chanthunya killed Gasa as he was the last person to share company with her on the day of fate. According to the Judge evidence also shows that Chanthunya tried to conceal the body.

An emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) convened on Thursday chaired by former President Peter Mutharika has referred General Grezelder Jeffrey to the disciplinary committee of the party. Mutharika fired Jeffrey wa Jeffrey as DPP Secretary General on Wednesday for openly backing calls for leadership change in the party. But Jeffrey rejected the firing, saying Mutharika has no powers to remove her from the position. The development forced Mutharika to call for an emergency meeting at his retirement home in the eastern district of Mangochi. Airports in Malawi to re-open on September 1

Flights into and out of Malawi will resume on September 1, 2020, faceofmalawi can reveal. Acting Director for the Department of Civil Aviation James Chakwera confirmed of the development in a statement released on Thursday made available to this publication. According to Chakwera, while noting the continuance of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government has carefully considered the adverse effects of the suspension of air travel on all the sectors of the economy and has therefore decided to lift the suspension with effect from 1st September 2020. “Various health protocols will have to be observed in a bid to control the spread of the virus, initially only a limited number of flights shall be allowed to operate and those operations shall be restricted to Kamuzu International Airport only until further notice,” he said. Councilor for Nyanja ward of Lilongwe Mapuyu North Constituency Ferenando Katenje Zulu has joined United Transformation Movement (UTM). Zulu won in the May 21, 2019 tripartite elections as an independent councilor. He was welcomed by National Director of Political Affairs Anita Kalinde and other officials form the party. Aftermath of June 23 fresh presidential elections which the Tonse Alliance emerged victorious, a number of people are joining including member of then the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). However, Tonse Administration has warned those joining the Alliance to respect Tonse Alliance Philosophy failing which they will not fit to work with the Alliance. Adding to that Tonse has also warned those Joining Tonse Alliance with an aim of seeking protection from the crimes committed while in government with DPP that their plans will not work for they will face the law.      

Brown Mpinganjira appointed as DPP Acting Spokesperson

Brown Mpinganjira has been appointed Acting Spokesperson for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) replacing the vocalist Nicholas Dausi. Mpinganjira will be deputized by Henry Mussa. This was agreed during an emergency meeting held on Thursday afternoon chaired by former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in Mangochi. The DPP National Executive Committee also appointed Andrew Matemba as Director of Elections replacing Ben Phiri who resigned two days ago. The committee also appointed Sheikh Emran Mtenje as the party’s regional government for Eastern Region. DPP is in leadership crisis as others are agitating for the firing of the party President Peter Mutharika if the party is to bounce back in 2025 presidential polls. The issue forced the party President to call for an emergency meeting.    

Malawian lost life while 2 Zambian Nationals are battling for life due to Road Accident in Dowa

A Malawian has died while two female Zambian nationals are battling for their lives at Madisi Mission Hospital in Dowa after being involved in a road accident last night. Dowa Police publicist Inspector Kaitano Lubrino confirmed of the development. Lubrino said that Tadeyo Chipala who was driving a Nissan Diesel lorry  belonging to Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRFM) from Lilongwe heading the Kasungu direction was with two business ladies from Zambia. He added that upon arrival at Nyagara in the area of traditional authority Chakhaza in the district,Tadeyo wanted to overtake other motor vehicles and lost control and swerved to the extreme offside where the vehicle overturned and died.
