Dorothy Shonga( Cash madam) and two others granted bail

Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Violet Chipawo has granted bail to former Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) Chief Executive Officer Collins Magalasi and his business partner Dorothy Shonga and one other suspect have been granted bail.

On Monday, the court denied the three bail on grounds that they will interfere with witnesses if released on bail.

Magalasi, his business associate Dorothy Shonga and Mera Public Relations Officer Patrick Maulidi are answering three counts of fraud, money laundering and entering into a contract with an employee through a K107 million procurement deal.

  Reports reaching this publication indicate that the man popularly known for posting various scandal stories on Facebook has been shot dead by unknown thugs in South Africa last night. Sidhaat Kooranah Prince well known as Javas Prince was one of the Administrators of a Malawian group on Facebook called   Malawian Scandals Osadeweza Original. According to reports, Javas was in his shop when the unknown people putting on a mask and a hood shot him twice in the head. However, reasons for his killings are not known. 6 days prior to his death, Javas Prince updated a status on his personal Facebook account accepting his defeat and saying time for him to rest has come. “Sometimes we need to accept defeat, till we meet again in the next life. Deforestation and Charcoal Burning in Dzalanyama

The Department of Forestry says deforestation and charcoal burning has escalated in Dzalanyama forest reserve since Malawi defence force soldiers stopped conducting patrols in the reserve. Deputy Director of Forestry Francis Chilimampunga has told Zodiak that, one effective forest patrol for a week cost K10 million for fuel, allowances and other logistical requirements . Chilimampunga said, the department through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change is planning to request MDF to open their own camps in Dzalanyama for sustainable management of the reserve. He said currently, less than 30 forest guards are manning 98,000 hectares of Dzalanyama forest reserve against a requirement of over 500 forest guards.
