Parliament rejects Esther Jolobala, DPP MPs not amused
Democratic Progressive Party DPP (DPP) lawmakers on Wednesday walked out of parliament after Government MPs rejected the confirmation of Esther Jolobala as member of the Parliamentary Service Commission.
The development came after leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda moved a motion to allow Jolobala, Machinga east parliamentarian, to replace Lilian Patel as member of the commission.
Leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa’s plea to have Jolobala confirmed as new member of the commission, proved futile after the House went into roll call.
This is what prompted DPP members to walk out of the House.
However, the MPs still proceeded to vote via a roll call which rejected Jolobala and re-instated Patel as member of the commission.
Earlier, parliament confirmed Jacob Hara, Mzimba Solola legislator into the commission.
He has replaced Richard Chimwendo Banda who is now a Minister.
The Parliamentary Service Commission has powers to hire and fire management of the National Assembly and acts as a board of parliament.
