Malawi Experienced a Lost Year – Chakwera

Torchbearer of Tonse Alliance has described the one year between the nullified May 21, 2019 presidential elections as a lost year. Yesterday the county clocked a year since Malawians went to polls to elect leaders of their choice starting from Councilors, Legislators and the president. But on February 3, 2020 the Constitutional Court nullified presidential elections after finding out that it was mismanaged following massive anomalies that the court found after hearing the case. Speaking during a whistle-stop campaign trail, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera said Malawians have been given an opportunity to correct their mistake. He therefore urged people to go out and vote in large numbers adding that the Tonse Alliance is there to unite Malawians. Rwanda to deploy robots in COVID-19 fight

Having successfully deployed drones in its fight against COVID-19, Rwanda is now enlisting five robots to bolster its response to the pandemic. The East African state, already at the forefront in adopting technology in Africa, will use the Belgium-made robots at a COVID-19 treatment center to test patients' temperatures and to alert authorities when people do not wear face masks. "I have been so resourceful in countries like South Korea, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium and China, where coronavirus started," one of the robots, known as Zorabots, told assembled medical staff at the Kanyinya facility in the capital, Kigali. "I look forward to do the same in Rwanda. Together we shall prevail." The robots can also deliver food and other essential supplies to patients in the treatment center, thereby minimizing contact between the patients and the health workers, according to the director general of the Rwanda Biomedical Center, Sabin Nsanzimana. Two-day-old baby dies from coronavirus in South Africa

A two-day-old baby born became the youngest victim of coronavirus in South Africa after being born prematurely to a coronavirus positive mother. It is the country's first neonatal death. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said the premature baby had lung problems and required ventilation immediately after birth. “The mother had tested positive for Covid-19 and the child subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 as well. It is important to appreciate the complexities of the underlying condition of prematurity,” he said. South Africa, which has the highest coronavirus infections in Africa, reported 27 new deaths bringing the total fatalities to 339. Some 803 new coronavirus cases were announced on Wednesday evening taking the total to 18,003 while 8,950 people have recovered.

11 Ghanaian sex-workers arrested after their client falls to his death while in “action”

Eleven commercial sex workers are in the grips of the Asokwa District Police Command in Ghana after a male client of theirs fell to his death from one of the windows of the Anidaso Hotel where he had allegedly had an altercation with a prostitute after he had had sexual intercourse with. The prostitutes were rounded up at the Asafo area of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region after the incident of the death of the man, believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, attracted their attention. The man, a commercial tricycle driver, died instantly on Sunday, 10th May 2020, after falling from the window of the hotel. The police command after the arrest of the prostitutes said they are investigating to ascertain circumstances leading to the incident, according to Christopher Owusu Mpianin of the police command.   Meanwhile the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital awaiting autopsy.

13 Year-Old-Girl Commits Suicide After Her Elder Sister Beat Her for Having a Boyfriend

A 13 year-old girl has reportedly committed suicide in Warri, Delta state over beatings she received for engaging in sexual affairs. It was gathered the incident occurred on Saturday behind a Total Filling Station near Warri Main Garage in the oil- city. Residents of the area, while expressing anger over the development, said she was a familiar face in the area. According to them, the late teen lived with an elder sister, who is also unidentified and had beaten her for having a boyfriend. Annoyed by the sister’s action, the deceased took an insecticide and ended up dead behind the fuel station. A source said: “It’s a shame. The girl was seen by her elder sister with a man and she beat her for having a male lover at her age. She went inside and killed herself by drinking Angle 90 (insecticide).

Man Removes Father’s Heart after Killing him

A 35-year old man, Nelson Oamen, who allegedly stabbed his father to death, removing his heart afterwards, was on Monday, remanded at a local Nigerian Prison. Reports say the suspect who was suspected to be a drug addict, allegedly stabbed his septuagenarian father, an indigene of Edo State to death. He reportedly escaped from his father’s apartment after the incident. He had also reportedly removed his father’s heart and took it away, covering his corpse with a blanket, before sneaking out of the house. Meanwhile, Oamen, on Tuesday, September 29 turned himself in at the Ipaja Police Division and was reportedly transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation (SCID) for further investigation.
