80 Muslim Women in Ntcheu Walk Away With Sewing Machines

About 80 women in Ntcheu Bwanje South Constituency are expected to be economically independent thanks to At-tareeqatul Qadriyyar SUNNI Association (AQSA) officials for making available 80 sewing machines.   Speaking at the presentation ceremony at Chikande Primary School in Ntcheu Bwanje, Monday, AQSA Chief Inspector, Alhaji Said Muhammed said the organisation is complementing government’s agenda on women empowerment.   “On behalf of AQSA, let me express my gratitude for making the donation to the women, these sewing machines will improve livelihoods in their families,” said Muhammed. SKC sends back MIM top officials over poor presentation

  State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima on Wednesday sent back officials from Malawi Institute of Management (MIM) over poor presentation on reforms. Chilima confirmed of the development in a statement posted on his official facebook page seen by this publication. 11 Year Old Boy In Mzimba Dies At Jada Beer Contest

  An 11 year old boy, identified as Humphreys Chipeta, has died after drinking five bottles of Jada at a liquor contest show in Mzimba district. Information reaching this publication indicates that the boy, who, according to his peers, was an avid drunkard had reached finals of the contest when he collapsed. The beer downing competition which was pegged at MK20,000 had been raised amongst all fierce boozers in the area and was organized for boys under the age of 14, according to our source. “The contest was in categories. They took ages used in football like under 14 to under 21 then the seniors,” said Emanuel Chirwa, an eye witness. He added: “it usually happens and the deceased boy was a defending champion. We suspect foul play on the death. Mulanje Man Nabbed For Killing Niece Over Land Dispute

  Police in Mulanje have arrested a 32-year-old man for killing his 3-year-old niece over a land dispute. The man, Richard Mphito, is suspected to have killed the girl on Wednesday by hitting her on the forehead with a metal bar. Sub Inspector Gresham Ngwira, spokesperson for Mulanje Police Station, said the girl’s mother told police that the suspect apportioned his piece of land to her three years ago. She was using the land until Wednesday morning when she was confronted by her brother to stop cultivating the land. In the morning, the woman went to the said land to cultivate and carried her 3-year-old daughter. This led to a quarrel whereby the suspect told his sister that he could kill both her and her 3-year-old child who was at her back. Mphito hit the child on the forehead with a metal bar and the kid became unconscious. Kamuzu Central Hospital Discharges All Covid-19 Patients

  The Kamuzu Central Hospital has discharged all its remaining COVID – 19 patients, Director for the Hospital Dr. Jonathan Ngoma has confirmed.   “It is true. They’ve all recovered. We’ve never had such a stressful time,” said Ngoma. The development comes a few days after Mzuzu Central Hospital equally discharged all COVID – 19 patients after testing negative for the coronavirus.   For the past 6 months since April when Malawi registered her first COVID – 19 cases, KCH admitted nearly 90 people who tested positive for the coronavirus.   “Those discharged are 57 in total. 32 passed on.   Parliament has confirmed Dr George Kainja as Malawi Police Service Inspector General. President Lazarus Chakwera appointed Kainja as IG in July and over the past two months he was working as acting IG. Minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda who is also leader of the house moved the moved the motion was supported by Minister of Trade Sosten Gwengwe. Speaking on behalf of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chipililo Mpinganjira vehemently rejected the appointment of Kainja describing him as incompetent man. Mpinganjira cited selected justice when it comes to arrests. On her part leader of United Democratic Front (UDF) in Parliament Lilian Patel supported the appointment of Kainja. She said Kainja deserves the position on grounds that he has served at all levels in the Malawi Police Service. Patel’s remarks were backed by report by the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament.  

Police withdraw three girls from early marriages in BT

Police in the commercial city of Blantyre have withdrawn three under-aged girls from early marriages and have also apprehended their suiters for defilement. Through community policing services office, information was received that two girls from one family at Chirimba got married off by their mother. Follow up was made that led to arrest of Barnet Molson 23 and withdrawal of a 14 year old girl (name withheld) on September 1, 2020. Police later arrested Andrew John 19 who was identified to have married a 12 year old young sister of the above victim. Meanwhile, the 12 year old victim is at large after learning that police picked her boyfriend. Efforts are currently under way to trace the whereabouts of the girl. Aise James 34, mother to the two victims has also been picked for allegedly marrying off her young daughters. Barnet Molson and Andrew John have been charged with defilement.
