DPP Deputy National Director of Operations Joe Nyirongo arrested

Deputy National Director of Operations for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Joe Nyirongo popularly known as “Big Joe” and three others have been arrested in Mzuzu.

Nyirongo is being accused of attacking Lazarus Chakwera during an MCP he held a rally at Chibavi in 2016, an incident that left several people hacked and their vehicles smashed.

But Police say since Nyirongo was released on bail, he has been defaulting his bail conditions, while the file for his case also went missing.

Northern region police spokesperson Peter Kalaya confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the press.

Angry Mob kills Two Suspected Thieves In Thyolo

  An angry mob at Goliati Trading Centre in Thyolo on Wednesday killed two people who were caught stealing a motorcycle. Thyolo police publicist Sub-Inspector Amos Tione confirmed the case saying the two pretended to be passengers and hired a motorcycle taxi. While on the way, one of them took pepper powder and spread it into the rider’s eyes. The motorcyclist immediately stopped and started struggling with the thugs before shouting for help. “People came out and apprehended the pair and took them to Goliati Police Unit. “But angry people from the market stormed the police and demanded that the suspected criminals should be released,” said Tione. The mob managed to get the suspects out of the police station and then stoned them to death. The two victims are yet to be identified.

Namadingo Meets Blantyre City Council CEO

A renowned Blantyre musician Patience Namadingo has today met the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Blantyre City Council (BCC) Alfred Chanza for the first time. The meeting of the duo comes after Namadingo had earlier complained of the poor service he had received from BCC when he requested for a venue to host fundraising for fellow musician William Kachigamba who is in need of money for his cancer treatment in Zambia. On Tuesday, Namadingo posed as a statue at Ginnery Corner collecting funds from well-wishers to carter for Kachigamba’s medical bills but the event started a little late due to hiccups he faced from the BCC.
